In this week’ collection, we have chosen a selection of crochet and knitted gifts to make for someone special on Mother’s Day.
By Claire Garland
This beautiful Mother’s Day badge pattern is by Claire Garland. It can be knitted in a day, a pretty gift for a special mum. The badge is constructed from toe cast on, worked over 2 needles then grafted to close. After, they are felted dried and embellished with simple lazy daisy and French knot embroidery motifs. All of these techniques are illustrated within the pattern so it’s perfect for a beginner’s project too!
Happy Mother’s Day to all mums!
By Joan Beebe
You don’t have to be a mother to enjoy this Mother’s Day Hat by Joan Beebe! This hat was named for Joan’s ever-gardening mother who wisely never headed out the door without her trusty sun protection. Whether gardening, lounging by the pool, or heading to a sporting event, this lightweight and portable sun hat will keep the burning rays off your face and neck without making your head too hot.
Originally this pattern recommended one ball of machine washable paper yarn (yes, paper – really!) The crown and sides have yarn overs for breath-ability, and the brim is solid Stockinette Stitch to keep the sun away. The hat collapses easily to stow away in a bag or purse for when you are on the go.
“Magic Loop” is the recommended method for knitting this hat, primarily because it makes it easy to try on as you go, but dpns and a shorter circular needle work equally well.
In addition, after knitting, add some fun embellishments to dress up your hat and make it all your own!
This lovely crochet tote bag was actually made to carry knitting projects in, made for a special mum. With
Super Bulky weight yarn, this tote crochets up in a snap! And just in time for Mother’s Day. In conclusion, what a lovely gift idea to a knitter from a crocheter!
